Telecast of 3 Indian channels to go on in Bangladesh

Staff Corresponded: The High Court on Sunday scrapped a writ petition which was filed seeking its directive on the government to stop telecast of three Indian television channels-- Star Jalsha, Star Plus and Zee Bangla-- in Bangladesh.

With the HC order, there is no bar on airing these three channels in Bangladesh.

The HC bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice JBM Hassan passed the order.

Advocate Aklas Uddin Bhuiyan stood for the petitioner, while Advocate Abdul Matin Khasru opposed the petition.

Syeda Shahin Ara Laily, a Supreme Court lawyer, submitted the petition to the HC in September 2014, saying that programmes broadcast by the three channels left adverse impact on social and cultural life of Bangladeshi people.
