There is lack of faith in polls held under partisan govt: TIB

Staff Correspondent: Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) on Monday said there is a lack of faith in the partisan government’s ability to hold a free and fair election.

TIB executive director Dr Iftekharuzzaman said this while speaking at a programme at TIB's Midas Tower office in the city.

Iftekharuzzaman said clean and credible election under a partisan government is possible if all political parties and stakeholders play supportive and responsible role.

“At present, there has been created a lack of faith among political parties and people over holding the election under the partisan government. As a result, many think that it is not possible to hold a fair election under a partisan government,” he said.

“The election under a partisan government is a common practice in many democratic countries of the world. It can’t be said all elections held under the current government was unfair,” the TIB executive director said.

Political parties have to play the most important role to hold a fair and acceptable election, he said.

During the programme, TIB revealed its analytical study on good governance and the integrity of election manifesto of the political parties.

Dr Iftekharuzzaman said there is a huge gap between the promises made in the manifesto of all political parties and their implementation which is not acceptable at all.
