Third Bangladesh-Japan Economic Dialogue held

Staff Correspondent: The Third Japan-Bangladesh Public Private Joint Economic Dialogue (PPED3) has been held in Tokyo on Tuesday with an aim to strengthen economic relation and cooperation existing between Bangladesh and Japan.

Md Shiplu Zaman, Second Secretary (Press) of Embassy of Bangladesh in Japan, said this at a press release.

Principal Coordinator of the Prime Minister Office on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Abul Kalam Azad led Bangladesh side at the dialogue, organized by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan with a view to boost economic cooperation between the two countries.

In the dialogue, a high level Bangladesh delegation urged Japanese enterprises to make more investment in Bangladesh informing Dhaka has taken initiatives to facilitate and promote business.

During the meeting, Azad described the Bangladesh government plan to establish One Stop Service, Tax policy simplification, easy repatriation of remittances, easy access to work permit and launching business procedure for foreign investors for promoting foreign investment.

On the other part, the Japanese delegation requested for reduction of import and supplementary duty, stable supply of energy and more importantly flawless security of investors. The Bangladesh delegation assured the Japanese companies of all out cooperation.

A review of the progress of establishing Special Economic Zone for Japanese Companies was discussed by Chairman, Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) and JICA representative.

The main aim of the PPED-3 is to improve and facilitate investment climate in Bangladesh for Japanese companies.

Diversification of industries and investment issues in Bangladesh were also discussed in the dialogue.

Various issues relating to improving business climate and investment facilities were deliberated on the dialogue.
