'Those have Tk 1 lakh in bank account are affluent'

Staff Correspondent: Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith said excise duty was imposed on people who have Tk 1 lakh deposite in the bank account. I think those people who have Tk 1 lakh are affluent enough.

In reply to a query, Finance Minister said this while addressing a post-budget press conference in the capital's Osmani Memorial Auditorium on Friday.

"It is very difficult to give a definition of rich men. But I know the people who keep Tk 1 lakh or more into their bank accounts are capable of bearing the expenditure of the excise duty," he added.
