Thousands of people marooned in Netrokona

Netrokona Correspondent: Thousands of people have been marooned in Netrokona district due to flood.

At least three people have been killed in the flood. They are- Abdul Aziz, 78, of Bir Sidhli village, Makbul Hossain, of Chakpara village, Jamal Mia, of Mandalergati village.

Besides, most of the primary schools have already been shut as flood water submerged those areas as the overall flood situation in Netrokona further worsened for the last few days affecting 50 of 86 unions in the 10 upazilas of Netrokona district.

District administration sources said that 31,588 families of 30 unions in Durgapur, Kalmak-anda, Barhatta, Purbadhala and sadar upazilas affected most. 

Due to continuous rain which comes from upstream and water causing extensive damage to the dwelling houses and untold sufferings to the people and hampering education to the students.

Netrokona Deputy Commissioner Mushfiqur Rahman said that metric tonnes of rice and Tk two lakh were distributed among the flood affected people.
