Threat to boycott classes, exams if cases not withdrawn

Staff Correspondent: Bangladesh General Students’ Rights Protection Council has threatened to boycott classes and examinations for an indefinite period if the all cases filed against the students of quota reform movement are not withdrawn within seven days.

Nurul Haque Nur, joint convener of the student organisation, came up with the threat at a press conference in front of the Central Library of Dhaka University (DU) on Wednesday afternoon.

He said, “We all are worried about our lives. Our convener is being threatened. So, he did not attend today’s press conference.”

Nurul Haque said, “It is possible to harass anyone in anonymous cases. So, we demand of withdrawing the cases. Alongside, we are requesting the administration to find out the real culprits. In this case, they can take help from video footages of Ekattor and ATN channels.”

“We request you (the administration) to take immediate steps with the help of news, video footages published in media and statement of witnesses. But, no anonymous case will not be against the students. The culprits must be identified if you justify the news published in different media,” he said.

“We are giving DU administration and police seven more days to find out real culprits and to withdraw the cases filed against unknown people. Otherwise, the students will boycott classes and examinations in all educational institutions across the country,” he added.

Nurul Haque said, “The student leaders who participated in the quota reform movement are being threatened in different manners. Propaganda is being run against them on social media. So, we request the administration to ensure security for every student of the movement.”

He also urged the authority concerned to publish PM’s announcement in a gazette immediately.
