Three BNP leaders denied permission to meet Khaleda Zia

Staff Correspondent: Three top leaders of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) have been denied permission to meet their party chief Khaleda Zia in Dhaka's old central jail.

According to the Jail authorities, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir along with the party's standing committee members Mirza Abbas and Nazrul Islam Khan reached the old jail on Nazimuddin Road in Dhaka around 3:00 pm. They were not allowed to enter the jail as they did not secure permission. So, they returned from the jail gate.

Mirza Fakhrul told reporters that we sought permission to meet the party chairperson Khaleda Zia. The permission was also given for day after tomorrow. But later it was cancelled and granted for today (Thursday). So, we came here. The jail authorities know better why they did not allow us to enter the jail.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case by a special court in Dhaka on February 8. Since, she has been in the old central jail on Nazimuddin Road in Dhaka.
