Staff Correspondent: Hindu leaders on Friday demanded three-day government holiday during Durga Puja, citing that the existing one-day break was inadequate to observe the festival with family and due religious rituals.
Addressing a human chain in front of the National Press Club in the capital, they also called on the government to ensure safety of the life and property of Hindus as the sectarian tension was taking roots in the country.
Chaired by Convener of Bangladesh Jatiya Hindu Chhatro Mohajote Prasanta Halder, the programme was addressed, among others, by Executive President Advocate Dinabandhu Roy, Secretary General Advocate Gobinda Chandra Pramanik, Senior Vice-President Dr. Sonali Das, Dr. MK Roy, General Secretary Milton Basu, International Affairs Secretary Ripon Dey, Student Affairs Secretary Suman Sarkar and Kishore Barman.
