Tofail seeks Australian support to repatriate Rohingyas

Staff Correspondent: Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Sunday sought cooperation of Australia for putting international pressure on the Myanmar government to repatriate the Rohingyas to their homeland.
"Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has placed five proposals before the 72nd session of the general assembly of the United Nations for permanently solving the Rohingya crisis. Australian support is essential to implement the proposals," the Minister said.
The minister sought the cooperation while meeting with the Australian Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop at the Perth City of Australia.
Abdul Latif Bakshi, senior information officer of the ministry, revealed the news.
Tofail said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has sheltered the Rohingya people on humanitarian ground and Bangladesh government is providing all kinds of humanitarian supports, including foods, clothes and treatment, to them.
"Myanmar government is delaying the process of repatriating Rohingyas following different tactics. It essential to increase international pressure for repatriating Rohingyas," he added.
Tofail said Bangladesh is moving forward and there are huge potentialities of Bangladesh to increase trade relations with Australia.
Earlier, the commerce minister delivered a speech at the session on "German Asia-Pacific Business Association Breakfast: Indian Subcontinent" at the Crown Towers Hotel in the city.
