Tonu’s family called for probe: Home Minister

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal

Staff Correspondent: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that family members of Sohagi Jahan Tonu have been called to Criminal Investigation Department (CID) office in Dhaka as part of the ongoing investigation into the murder case.

The home minister said this while replying to journalists after attending the 15th founding anniversary programme of Southeast University in Tejgaon of Dhaka on Wednesday.

“The investigation process is underway and the CID team is investigating the murder case. I believe the real story will be revealed through the investigation,” Asaduzzaman told journalists.

Tonu, 19, a second year history student of Comilla Victoria College and a member of Victoria College Theatre, went missing on March 20 in 2016, hours after she had gone out of her house at Comilla Mainamati Cantonment for private tuition.

Later, Tonu’s father Yaar Hossain found his daughter lying senseless with severe injuries in her body in a bush adjacent to their house. She was then whisked off to Combined Military Hospital where doctors declared her dead.
