Top terrors, militants won’t be allowed to use phone

Maksudur Rahman: Prisoners of the country are getting scope to talk to relatives over mobile or telephones. The service is expected to launch at different jails across the country next week. But top terrors and militants will not be allowed for the privilege, according to officials concerned.
Though the service was supposed to launch at Tangail district jail from March 8, it was differed for unavoidable reasons. Home Minister will inaugurate the service officially any day in next week, according to the ministry’s public relations officer (PRO).
Home Ministry PRO Sharif Mahmdu Opu told risingbd that the service is being launched aiming to give the prisoners scope to be amended. All measures have also been taken to allow them using technologies.
Inspector General of Prisons Brig Gen Syed Iftekhar Uddin told risingbd that for the sake of security, a member of the intelligence agency will be present beside the prisoner who will talk over phone and discussion will be recorded. But top terrors and militants will not get the facility. Just general prisoners will be allowed. No prisoner can be allowed to make order or embargo over the phone.
Officials concerned said when a prisoner will enter the jail, authorities will take two registered mobile phone numbers of his/her mother, father, wife and children. He/she will be allowed to make call just on the two numbers which will be provided during the entry.
