‘Tourism main weapon for sustainable development’

Staff Correspondent: Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon on Wednesday said tourism is the main weapon for sustainable development. It should be boosted through proper utilization of the country's natural beauties.

The minister came up with the statement while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion on Dhaka University campus marking the World Tourism Day-2017.

If the tourism sector can be utilized, it will be the main sector of earning foreign currency and employment which will exceed the income earned through garments, Menon said.

DU Tourism and Hospitality Management Department (DU-THMD) and Bangladesh Tourism Board jointly organised the discussion at Teacher-Student Center (TSC) auditorium.

DU THM Department Chairman Professor Dr Saker Ahmed presided over the discussion while Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman attended it as the special guest.
