Traders reluctant to buy rawhide in Ctg

Staff Correspondent, Chattogram: People in Chattagram town and district could not sell the rawhide of their sacrificial animals.

Some people left the rawhide on roadside failing to get price. Besides, some traders purchased the rawhide at very low rate. On the other hand, seasonal traders said although they bought rawhide at low rate but they had to face loss. 

Traders said over two lakh pieces of rawhide were collected from Chattogram town and district following Eid-ul-Azha.

Ismail Chowdhury, a dweller of Fatikchhari in Chattogram told risingbd.com, "He bought a cow spending Tk80,000 this year. Rawhide collectors used to take the skins of sacrificial animals every year visiting home. But, there was no one this time to get the rawhide."

Similarly, Abdus Salam from Rangunia said, there was no one to buy the rawhide. As a result, the rawhide was given to the collectors at free at cost. Seasonal rawhide traders were inactive in this year.   

Chattogram leather association leader Muslem Uddin said there is no demand of rawhide. So, the seasonal rawhide collectors are also inactive. As a result, many people could not sell their rawhide of their sacrificial animals.
