Traffic Week: 1,61,780 cases filed till Monday

Maksudur Rahman: The Traffic Week, which launched to bring traffic discipline on roads and highways on August 5 across the country, is ending on Tuesday. Police lodged 1,61,780 cases against different vehicles and took action against 60,383 drivers for traffic violations including driving on the wrong side, not having driving licenses and fitness certificates across the country.

Sources of Public Relations Office of the Police Headquarters confirmed the news.

Some Tk 6,29,93, 979 was fined and 4,450 vehicles were seized during the Traffic Week in the country’s six Metropolitans, eight ranges and Highway range till the day, according to PRO office of Police Headquarters.

On Tuesday, it was seen that police are checking suspected vehicles on different important roads in the capital. They were filing cases, fining money and seizing vehicles if they found flaws.

Sergeant Ashraf Uddin who was on duty at Bangla Motor area said that he was filing case if anomalies were found against the vehicles and drivers. He lodged 23 cases till 11:00am on the day. He also seized two vehicles for not having valid documents.

DMP joint commissioner (traffic) Farid Uddin told risingbd that they were trying to bring back discipline on the roads in the capital. But filing cases is not solution to the crisis. People have to be conscious which can play a great role in this regard.

He said, “We were not sparing anyone. Traffic police was instructed strictly in this connection. Steps were being taken once irregularities were found.”
