'Tree girl' admitted to Dhaka Medical

Staff Correspondent: A ten year old girl has been admitted to Dhaka Medical Hospital who is suffering the rare skin disease which another man Abul Bajandar has and undergone at least 16 operations at the same hospital.

The girl Shahana, dubbed as 'tree girl' because of the bark-like warts she has on her body, admitted to the hospital on Sunday.

Dr Samanta Lal Sen, chief coordinator of National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery of the DMCH, told risingbd.com that the 10 year old girl bears the same skin disease like Abul Bajandar who is going to be the first person ever to recover from the disease.

Abul Bajandar was dubbed "tree man" because of the large, wood-like warts on his body, caused by the rare genetic condition epidermodysplasia verruciformis and made news around the world because of the rare skin condition.

However, the wood-like warts on Shahana's body including cheek, chin and nose are less for which she has more chances of getting cured, Dr Samanta Lal Sen added.

Her father Shajahan who is hailed from Balurchar village of Kalmakanda upazila in Netrokona said the wood-like warts started to grow on her body at the age of two. They went to local homeopathic  doctors but no positive result came.
