Truth, Justice should remain upheld

Today is holy Ashura. 10th day of the month of Muharram in the Arabic calendar is identified as Ashura.

Lot of important events took place on this day in the world history. To Muslims the day is a symbol of sacrifice and mourning. The almighty Allah created the universe on 10th day of Muharram. And the whole earth will be destroyed on the same day. On this day, Hazrat Imam, the grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), along with his family members embraced martyrdom at the hands of Yazid’s soldiers at the desert of Karbala.

So many important incidents took place on this day. So, it is a very significant day for Muslims. Not only Muslims but also other followers of 4 Holy Islamic Books recognize the day giving high importance.

Ashura (Arabic: ʻĀshūrā’ or English: Day of Remembrance) is the tenth day of Muharram in the Islamic calendar. Hazrat Adam (AS) came to earth on this day and Allah granted his prayer on the same day. On this day, Hazrat Moosa (AS) crossed Nile River and get relieve from Fir'aun. Fir'aun and his followers drowned in the Nile River. Besides, on this day, the boat of Hazrat Noah (AS) was saved from the deluge. Lot of similar historical and significant incidents took place on 10th day of Muharram.

The most tragic incident took place on this day at the desert of Karbaka on the bank of Furat/Euphrates River. Hazrat Imam Hossain Ibn Ali (RA), a grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) with 72 followers embraced martyrdom in the hands of soldiers of Yazid for the supremacy of justice and righteousness.

The day of Ashura is marked by Muslims as a whole in commemoration of the martyrdom of Hossain at Karbala Maidan in Iraq. The day is observed as a symbol of ‘sacrifice and mourning.’ We should uphold the teaching of sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hossain Ibn Ali (RA), leaving all types of greed, fascination. National poet Kazi Nazrul Islam also echoed the same message in his poem 'Muharram'.

Muslims are oppressed across the globe in many ways. Disagreements are increasing in Muslims due to several types of misunderstandings and plots. Violence is being spread leaving the main teaching of Islam. In this circumstance, Muslims should take an oath to stand against wrongdoings on the occasion of Ashura. We should enlighten ourselves with light of truth and beauty.

Standing against injustice, struggling for justice is the main theme of Ashura. We all should enlighten ourselves with the teaching of Ashura and Karbala.
