Two drug traders killed in Cox's Bazar gunfights

Cox's Bazar Correspondent: Two drug traders were killed in separate gunfights in Teknaf and Maheshkhali of Cox's Bazar early Sunday.

Sources said a listed drug trader named Imran Prokash Putuiya Mistri, 35 was killed in a gunfight with police in Dargarchhara area of Hinla union of Teknaf upazila. Meanwhile, two local-made guns and 7,000 pieces of Yaba pills were seized from the spot.

Teknaf police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Murad, ASI Delwar and constable Imon were received injury during the gunfight.

Confirming the matter, Teknaf police station Officer-in-Charge Ranjit Kumar Barua said the body was sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Besides, another drug trader Mahmudul Karim, 28, son of Yusuf Ali, was killed and injured five policemen in a gunfight in Saperdeil area of Soto Maheshkhali union under Maheshkhali upazila. 



The injured policemen are- Sub-Inspector Dipok, ASI Sanjib, Constable Ibrahim, Main Uddin, Aftab Uddin. The injured were sent to Maheshkhali Hospital.

Maheshkhali police station OC Pradib Kumar Das said on information, the law enforcers conducted a drive in the area. Sensing the presence of police, the criminals opened fire. In reply, police also fired back which triggered the gun battle. At one stage, the criminals fled the scene. Later, police detained bullet-hit Mahmudul from the spot and sent him to Maheshkhali upazila health complex where duty doctors declared him dead.

Meanwhile, Eight guns, 20 rounds of bullets and 2000 pieces of Yaba pills were recovered from the spot.
