Two muggers shot in capital

Staff Correspondent: Two muggers have been shot by police in Shahbagh area of the capital.

The injured muggers are - Billal Hossain Kabir, 35 and Salman, 28.

Shahbagh police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Hossain said the incident took place around 1:30am on Wednesday.

A police patrol team was on duty in the area when they were informed that two thieves were headed to Shahbagh from the Matsya Bhaban area. Following the information, the law enforcers barricaded the thieves’ motorcycle in front of Shikha Chironton. At one stage, the muggers attacked policemen with a lethal weapon and a pistol. Meanwhile, police fired at them, in self-defence; they shot the suspects’ legs.

However, the thieves’ pistol was found to be a toy. Police recovered the toy, along with a machete, a motorcycle, and a mobile phone from the spot.

The injured were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.
