Two to die for killing RU Prof Rezaul Karim

Staff Correspondent, Rajshahi: Two people have been sentenced to death and three others to life term imprisonment for killing Rajshahi University teacher Prof Rezaul Karim Siddiquee in 2016.
Rajshahi Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Shirin Kabita Akhter pronounced the verdict in presence of the three convicts on Tuesday.
The death row convicts are-Maskawat Hossain Sakib alias Abdullah, hailing from Bogura, and Shariful Islam alias Khalid alias Rahat, a student of RU English Department. Shariful tried in absentia.
The lifers are-Rahmatullah, a student of Rajshahi University, Abdus Sattar and his son Ripon Ali.
Prof Rezaul Karim, 58, of RU English Department, was killed by miscreants in the city's Shalbagan area while he was waiting for university bus.
The victim’s son Sourov Hossain filed a murder case with Boalia police station.
