UP chairman shot dead in Barisal

Staff Correspondent, Barisal: A union parishad chairman of Wazirpur upazila in Barisal was shot dead by unidentified miscreants on Friday night.

The deceased was identified as Jolla Union Parishad Chairman Bishwajit Halder Nantu. He was also local Awami League unit president.

Locals said the victim was staying at his business center in Karfa Bazar of Jolla union around 9:00pm. Meanwhile, a gang of assailants, riding on motorcycles, shot the UP chairman and escape the scene.

Nantu was taken to a local health complex initially. Later, he was shifted to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, where the duty doctor declared him dead.

Hospital Director Md Bakir Hossain said that three bullet wounds were found on Nantu’s body.

Wazirpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shishir Kumar Pal said, police is trying to catch the criminals. However, the OC did not say anything in details over the murder.
