US assistant secretary for South Asia arrives in Dhaka

Staff Correspondent: US Acting Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Alice Wells arrived in Dhaka on a one-day visit early Tuesday.

During her visit, the US official will meet the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, prime minister's adviser Gawhar Rizvi, defence and international affairs advisor Maj Gen (retd) Tarik Ahmed Siddique.

In a press release, US embassy confirmed the matter on Tuesday.

Alice Wells already has held a meeting with foreign minister AH Mahmood Ali this morning.

The US official will also meet with government officials, business leaders, and civil society representatives to discuss Washington’s cooperation in the region.

She is also the Acting Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan for the US.

According to the state department, on Sep 1, she will speak at the Indian Ocean Conference in Colombo.
