Upazila elections: Chairmen will not have to resign

Staff Correspondent: The Election Commission (EC) Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed has said that Upazila chairmen and vice-chairmen will not have resign from the posts during Upazila Parishad elections.

“Upazila chairmen and vice-chairmen will not have to resign to participate in the elections”, the secretary said this at a briefing on Thursday.

He was briefing to the returning and assistant returning officers appointed for the second phase Upazila election at Election Building at Agargaon in the city.

The secretary also said that the chairmen and members of the union councils, members of the district councils and mayors and councilors of the municipalities will have to resign. There are many colleges that are not nationalized and teachers of institutions will have to resign to participate in Upazila polls.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and four election commissioners were also present.
