Upazila polls: 29 elected uncontested in 1st phase

Staff Correspondent: A total of 29 candidates- chairman, vice chairman and women vice chairman, have been elected uncontested in the first phase of the upcoming upazila polls.

Of them, 16 are chairmen, six vice chairmen and seven women vice chairmen.

Election Commission (EC) sources confirmed the news on Thursday.

According to the schedule announced by EC, polls were scheduled to be held in 87 upazila of 12 districts on March 10. But the court stayed election in Paba upazila in Rajshahi.

Meanwhile, all the candidates of Melandaha-Madarganj, Jamalpur and Natore sadar have been elected uncontested. So, now polls will be held in 83 upazilas.

A total candidates of 217 chairmen, 406 vice chairmen and 273 women vice chairmen are contesting the polls in the rest 83 upazilas.

Mentionable, according to schedule announced by EC, upazila polls will be held in the second phase on March 18, third phase on March 24 and fourth phase on March 31.
