Upazila polls: First phase voting begins

Staff Correspondent: The first phase elections to 78 Upazila Parishads in 12 districts has begun.

The voting began at 8:00am on Sunday and will be continued to 4:00pm without any break.

Election Commission has warned of stern action against any kind of irregularity during the Upazila Elections.

EC additional secretary Md Mokhlesur Rahman said, “We thing that upazila polls is a local election. The candidates here remain active. They are campaigning in that way. We hope the presence of voters will be more in this polls.”

Mokhlesur Rahman also said the EC announced election schedule for 87 upazilas in the first phase on February 3, but the election is being held in 78 upazilas.
