Upazila polls: Six OCs withdrawn

Staff Correspondent: The Election Commission (EC) has withdrawn Officer-in-Charges (OC) of six police stations to hold a fair election in the second phase polls of the fifth upazila election to be held on March 18.

The police stations are: Kulaura of Moulivibazar, Phulchhari of Gaibandha, Birganj of Dinajpur, Shibganj of Bogura, Manda of Noagaon and Ali Kodom of Bandarban.

EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed revealed the news on Sunday, day before the voting.

He said, “EC issued withdrawal order for the six OCs for their alleged biased role and irregularities."

Officials ranked to additional superintendent of police (ASP) were given charges instead of them, he added.

EC Secretary said, “Polls are scheduled to be held at 116 upazilas of 16 districts in the second phase on Monday.

However, 23 chairmen, 13 vice-chairmen and 12 female vice-chairmen were elected uncontested in second phase.
