VAT to remain 15 per cent: Finance Minister

Finance Minister AMA Muhith

Special Correspondent: Finance Minister AMA Muhith reiterated his determination that the unified value-added tax (VAT) will remain at 15 percent in the next fiscal year.

The minister made the disclosure while addressing media at his secretariat office on Saturday afternoon.

He also said that the 15 percent uniform VAT will not affect the price of essentials as many necessary items will be kept out of the purview of it.

In reply to a question, the finance minister said that there was discussion to reduce rate but considering overall situation, the VAT is fixed at 15 percent.

The minister also said taking the budget size from Tk 950 billion to Tk 4 trillion is the biggest success of the government.
