VNSC students halt demo, to attend exams on Friday

Staff Correspondent: Demonstrating students of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College (VNSC) postponed their movement following the assurance from teachers.

The students also announced to sit for the examinations scheduled for tomorrow (Friday).

The announcement came following a meeting held between the teachers and agitating students of the school on Thursday afternoon.

"The teachers have assured us of meeting the demands we have placed before them. Following the assurance, we have decided to sit for the exams scheduled for tomorrow," the students said.

Meanwhile, a Dhaka court sent Hasna Hena, a teacher of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, to jail after rejecting her bail in a case filed for provoking Aritree Adhikary, a ninth-grader of the school, to commit suicide.

Metropolitan Magistrate MD Abu Sayeed passed the order on Thursday after police inspector Kamrul Hasan Talukdar produced her before his court with a prayer for confining her in jail.

The detectives arrested Hasna Hena from Uttara in the capital around 11:00pm on Wednesday.

Aritree Adhikary was found hanging from the ceiling of her home in the capital's Shantinagar on Monday (December 3) hours after she and her parents were allegedly insulted by some teachers of the school.

The death and the subsequent agitation, joined by parents, rocked the 66-year-old institute and prompted the education ministry and the school authorities to form two separate probe committees.

Aritree’s father filed the case with Paltan Police Station against the school’s principal Nazneen Ferdous, morning shift -in-charge Zinnat Ara and class teacher Hasna Hena on December 4.
