Verdict in Zia Charitable Trust graft case on Oct 29

Staff Correspondent: The verdict in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case, filed against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, will be declared on October 29.

Judge Md Akhtaruzzaman of the Special Court-5 in Dhaka fixed the date on Tuesday.

Earlier on August 8, 2011, the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) had filed the corruption case accusing Khaleda and three others on charge of embezzling Tk 3.15 crore from the Zia Charitable Trust. The trial began at a makeshift court inside the jailhouse.

The three others accused are - Harris Chowdhury, political secretary to the then PM Khaleda, Ziaul Islam Munna, assistant private secretary (APS) to Harris, and Monirul Islam Khan, APS to former Dhaka City Mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka.

On March 19, 2014, Justice Basudeb Roy formed charge against Khaleda Zia and three others.
