Verdict on Ershad's rudder purchase case on Wednesday

Staff Correspondent: A Dhaka court will deliver its verdict on a corruption case filed against former president and Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Kamrul Hossain Mollah will pass the order on Wednesday. 

Earlier on April 12, the court fixed the date after hearing in the case.

Additional Public Prosecutor Taposh Kumar Paul of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge court said that the court is scheduled to pass the order around 3:00pm tomorrow.

Ershad's lawyer Sheikh Sirajul Islam said that HM Ershad will appear before the court. He also expressed hope that Ershad will be acquitted in the case.

Other two accused of the case are: former assistant chief of Bangladesh Air Force Momtaz Uddin Ahmed and Sultan Mahmud were present in the courtroom, while the remaining accused AKM Musa is on the run since the beginning of the case.

In the case Ershad and others are accused of causing a loss of Tk 64 crore 4 lakh 42 thousand 918 to the national exchequer in connivance with each other while purchasing rudder from Westing Company of US instead of purchasing modern rudder from the CSF Company of France.
