Voters happy with EVM

Staff Correspondent, Rangpur: Voters of all ages in a polling centre (Begum Rokeya College Centre) in Rangpur City Corporation polls found electronic voting machines (EVM) very much user-friendly, putting an end to all rumours and confusion over its use.

“This is very easy. We just pressed buttons… It's really interesting,” said housewife Shahana Parvin and her daughter.The correspondent talked to some voters at the centre when the elections were on. Almost all of them said that voting through EVM was a lot easier and quicker than what it was previously.

Before the election, massive programmes were taken to inform people of the new voting system.

The new EVM produced by Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory is being used in the polling centre of the city corporation elections.

Unlike the old EVM, the new machine has a number of fresh features, including voter verification process, display of names of symbols of all the candidates, printed vote-casting confirmation slip and installation of data of the particular polling station.
