Voting in Mymensingh City polls begins

Staff Correspondent: The maiden election to Mymensingh City Corporation is underway smoothly and in a peaceful manner.

Voting has begun at 8am and will continue till 4pm, without any break.

The balloting will decide only its councilors as the lone mayoral candidate has already been elected unopposed.

Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) are being used in all the 127 polling stations. A total of 2,026 EVMs will be used in the city polls.

The voters were seen waiting to cast their votes maintaining discipline. Awami League mayoral contender Ekramul Haque Titu has already been elected uncontested as there was no rival candidate against him. 

Returning Officer and Regional Election Officer Md Alimuzzaman said, “All kinds of preparations have been taken to hold a peaceful election. 10 Ansar members and three policemen will be deployed in each polling centre while 22 platoon of Border Guard Bangladesh, 33 mobile teams of Rapid Action Battalion, 33 mobile teams of police and 11 striking forces will be deployed to avert any untoward incident.”
