Voting suspended at Sirajganj polling centre, 3 held

Sirajganj Correspondent: Authorities have suspended balloting at three centre in Sirajganj's Sadar Upazila over irregularities in the first phase of voting in the upazila elections.

Following the irregularities, a presiding officer and two assistant presiding officers were detained.

The three arrested election officials are -Presiding Officer Anwar Hossain, Assistant Presiding Officers Belal Hossain and Abdul Alim.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Rayhan confirmed the matter.

Md Abul Hossain, the district’s returning officer said, “District presiding officer complained that there was pressure for illegal activity on the night before the election.”

Later, Executive Magistrate Mohammad Rahmat Ullah visited the polling center at Mahmudpur govt primary village in Sirajganj and postponed the voting.
