Walton face huge defeat against BCB

Sport Desk: Walton Central Zone faced a huge defeat against BCB North Zone in the fifth round of the fifth season of Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL), the country's franchise based first class cricket tournament.

The defending champions were beaten by an innings and 85 runs.

Batting first at Sylhet Divisional Stadium in Sylhet on Sunday, Walton Central Zone only scored 181 runs in their first innings.

In response, BCB North Zone posted a huge total of 537 runs in their first innings which gave them a 356-run lead.

Batting collapse continued for Walton in the second innings and they were all out scoring 271 on Wednesday morning, the fourth and final day of the match.

Resuming the day at 229/8 on Wednesday, Walton added 42 runs more with rest of the 2 wickets.  Tanvir Haider who was unbeaten on 42 in the previous day, got a fifty and was caught and bowled by Sanjamul Islam. He scored 51 with 7 boundaries and 1 over boundary.

The other unbeaten lower order batsman Sharif started the day at 19 and was unbeaten scoring 45 with 4 fours and 2 sixes. BCB's Sanjamul also bagged the other wicket of Shahhadat Hossain.

Walton thrashed Islami Bank East Zone in the fourth match to return back to the competition after they were defeated in the first two of the previous three matches. The other match was a draw for which the defending champions have 9 points.

However, this defeat means they are out of the race of the title.

Result: BCB North Zone won by an innings and 85 runs.
