‘We are close to implementing Vision 2021’

Senior Correspondent: Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif said the country is going to turn into a middle income country as agriculturists and agriculture scientists have made a valuable contribution in increasing crop production.

“We are gradually heading towards the implementation of Vision 2021 as announced by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he told at the senior agriculture scientist conference-2017 at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) in the capital on Friday.

Addressing as the chief guest, he said, “The country has achieved self-sufficiency in food as agriculture scientists have invented different varieties of high-yielding crops.”

Once it was tough to feed 3.5 crore people in this country but now the country is feeding 16.5 crore people. Now no one has to remain unfed. This has been possible only because of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the land minister said.

Sherif said Bangladesh has witnessed a significant rise in crop production as a result of sincere and effective efforts made by the present government.

KIB President AM Saleh, Secretary General Krishibid Khairul Alam Prince, Krishibid Dr Mirza A Jalil and agriculture scientists, among others, addressed the function with Krishibid Liakat Ali Juwel in the chair.
