We made inexistent, says Shantu Larma

Staff Correspondent: President of United People’s Party of the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Jyotirindra Bodhipriya Larma, popularly known as Shantu Larma said that colonial rule is now running in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. We were wiped out from the constitution and made us inexistent. Now, where will hill people go and take shelters?

Shantu Larma made this statement at a discussion on the occasion of two decades of CHT treaty held at the capital's Daily Star Bhaban on Saturday.

He said the then Awami League government in 1997 signed the treaty, but they showed no sincerity to implement it. The demand of materializing the treaty claimed by the government is totally hoax.

Shantu Larma said the treaty had two forms- written and unwritten. The unwritten treaty included that the five thousand people inhabited by the Ziaur Rahman government will be evacuated from the hills. But, in spite of evacuation, new people are being rehabilitated there every day.
