Woman held for ‘spreading rumour on Facebook’

Staff Correspondent: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested a woman for spreading rumour on social networking site Facebook to instigate the recent student movement for road safety.

The arrestee is Faria Mahzabin, 28.

Tipped off, a team of RAB-2 raided a house at West Dhanmondi on Friday night and arrested her for instigating people during the students movement through uploading audio clips, posting provocative status and false photo.

RAB-2 Operation Officer Rabiul Islam confirmed the matter.

During primary interrogation, the detainee confessed to the Rab officials that she had shared some provocative and false contents and posts using her mobile internet in a bid to divert the student movement to different direction and deteriorate the law and order situation during the protests.
