Work on to brand country's districts before world

Desk Report: The government has started work to brand each district of the country before the world through focusing three areas -- tourism, product and notable initiatives. 

The Access to Information (a2i) Programme under the Prime Minister's Office has been tasked to focus potentialities of every district before the world , especially tourism. 

"We want to highlight everything of a district before the world to develop all districts as well as the country," Kabir Bin Anwar, the project director of the a2i programme, told BSS on Friday.

He said each district of Bangladesh has some specialties like tourism prospect, special product or food and some have taken notable initiatives for public welfare. 

Anwar, also the director general (administration) of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), said the district-branding is such an action plan for the development of its distinct and potentials by involving all sections of the people by taking into consideration history, heritage, tradition and culture of that particular area.

He mentioned that the district-branding has unveiled a new horizon of economic possibilities by creating massive workplaces in all districts.

"The district-branding initiatives will be successful by the collective efforts and participation of all and it will help establish Bangladesh as a developed and prosperous country before the world," he added.

Director (e-service) of a2i Dr M Abdul Mannan said the a2i has taken the initiative to make the country developed by 2041 through the participation of all deputy commissioners and the people under the supervision of the divisional commissioners.

"To implement the initiative, ministries, agencies and organizations related to the branding materials have been involved in this programme," he said, adding the cabinet division is supervising the programme. 

About the progress of the programme, he said the a2i has already selected the branding materials, logo and tagline of every district and is conducting workshop and videoconferencing in each district. 

Mannan said each district is also preparing their respective brand book. "Six books have already been published and ten books are waiting for publish," he said. 

"Comilla is an old and one of the biggest districts in the country having a glorious history and tradition. There are many historic sites and places and along with specialized food that attract a huge number tourists from home and abroad," said Comilla Deputy Commissioner M Jahangir Alam. 

Different historical places like Kotbari, Shalban Vihara in Mainamati, Dharma Sagar and War Cemetery are situated in the district, he said.

He said that a sweetmeat shop, named Matri Vandar, is also famous for the mouthwatering 'Rosmalai', while the locally textured 'Khadi' textile is a traditional cloth being produced in Comilla for decades.

"We are projecting Comilla before the world through tourist spots, delicious foods and Khadi textile," he added.

Deputy Commissioner of Feni Manoj Kumar Roy said they want to present the Feni district before the world on tourism as there are many historically and economically important places in the district like Muhuri Barrage, Belonia Land Port and Bijoy Singh Dighi.
