World Metrology Day today

Staff Correspondent: The World Metrology Day is being observed in the country today (Saturday) as elsewhere across the globe.

The theme of the day this year is measurements for transport.

President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu have issued separate messages on this occasion.

The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution has organised several programmes, including discussion meetings at its regional offices, marking the day.

Besides, BSTI will organise a discussion meeting on 21 May at its head office at Tejgaon industrial area where industries minister Amir Hossain Amu will be present as chief guest.

Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan, industries ministry senior secretary Mosarrof Hossain
Bhuiyan, FBCCI president Abdul Matlub Ahmad will be present as special guest.

World Metrology Day is an annual celebration of the signature of the Metre Convention on May 20, 1875 by representatives of seventeen nations.

The convention set the framework for global collaboration in the science of measurement and in its industrial, commercial and societal applications.

The original aim of the Metre Convention - the world-wide uniformity of measurement - remains as important today as it was in 1875.
