Desk Report: The World Radio Day 2018 is being observed in the country as elsewhere across the world today (Feb 13) highlighting the importance of the radio to the people.
The United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO) in its 36 general conference on November 3, 2011 approved a proposal to celebrate the day on February 13 across the world as the World Radio Day.
The objective of the day is to raise awareness about the importance of radio, facilitate access to information through radio and enhance networking among broadcasters. With the slogan 'Radio and Sports', Bangladesh Betar has chalked out a-daylong programs at the Jatiya Betar Bhaban in the city's Agargaon area today. Marking the day, a colorful procession was brought from Jatiya Betar Bhaban in the morning.
Apart from this, a discussion will be held at the auditorium of Jatiya Betar Bhaban. Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu is expected to lead the rally and address the inaugural function as the chief guest while State Minister of the ministry Tarana Halim will also address the event.
On the eve of the day, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages greeting all concerned, including officers, employees, technicians and audience of the Bangladesh Betar and wishing all programs of the day a success.
