Desk Report: The government and different organisations have chalked out various colourful programmes to celebrate the World Tourism Day with the global theme ‘Tourism and Digital Transformation’.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate messages ahead of the day.

In his message, the President said Bangladesh has great opportunity to develop tourism with her immense resources like attractive natural beauty, biodiversity, sea beaches, the world’s largest mangrove forest, wild life, archaeological sites, monuments, hills, ethnic diversity, rich traditional handicraft and cottage industry.

The government, he said, has given emphasis on utilizing digital technologies for the promotion of tourism potentials at home and abroad.

“I hope, all the stakeholders will come forward to use digital technologies for the smooth operation of tourism business in Bangladesh,” the President said.

In her message, Prime Minister said the greatest Bangali of all time, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, established Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation in 1972 realizing the huge potential of tourism in Bangladesh.

The Prime Minister urged the private entrepreneurs to come forward spontaneously along with the government initiatives to contribute to the economic development of the country through the use of digital technology in tourism.

Along with Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB) and Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation (BPC), different organisations including Aviation and Tourism Journalists’ Forum of Bangladesh (ATJFB), a platform of journalists covering aviation and tourism affairs, have organised series of events in observance of the World Tourism Day.

The day’s programme began with a colourful rally participating by all stakeholders of tourism sector from Matshya Bhaban to TSC of Dhaka University at 8:00 am.

The BTB and Dhaka University Tourism Department will hold a seminar on this year’s theme at 2 pm at the Dhaka university campus.

The main attraction of the day is the three-day colourful festival and musical show titled “Biman Tourism Fest 2018”, organised by ATJFB with the support of BTB, to be held at Rabindra Sarabor, one of the capital’s popular cultural hubs.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister AKM Shahjahan Kamal will inaugurate the festival while different organisations will showcase various tourism-related products and activities amid discussion and musical shows.

The BPC has organized a food festival at the evening at Malancha restaurant of Hotel Abakash in the capital.
