Youth killed in Gopibagh ‘gunfight’

Staff Correspondent: A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Gopibagh Railgate area here early Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Shanto Chowdhury, 17.

Being informed that a gang of robber numbering 7 to 8 was taking preparation to commit robbery in the area, police conducted a drive there around 11:30 pm Monday, according to Wari Police Station this morning.

When the team reached there, the robbers swooped on the law enforcers, prompting them to retaliate that triggered the gunfight.

The gunfight left Shanto injured with bullet while two policemen—Sukanto and Rokibul Islam— sustained injuries. They were admitted to nearby hospital.

Later, Shanto was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where he succumbed to his injuries early Tuesday.
