Zia Orphanage case trial against Khaleda to be continued: SC

Staff Correspondent: The Zia Orphanage Trust graft trial against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will be continued at a lower court as the Supreme Court on Monday cleared way for the continuation of the case.

A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by acting Chief Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah passed the “no order” after hearing on a petition by Khaleda Zia, seeking stay on the trial proceedings and recording deposition of the witnesses of the case.

Now, there is no legal bar for the lower court concerned to continue trial proceedings in the case, Anti-Corruption Commission lawyer Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan said.

On August 8, 2011, the ACC filed the Zia Orphanage Trust case with Tejgaon police, accusing four people, including Khaleda, of raising funds for the trust from unknown sources through power abuse.
