Staff Correspondent: Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Asaduzzaman Mia on Thursday directed the policemen to open fire for the sake of their own safety.
He also ordered to carry at least a loaded arm with other arms during working in check posts.
Asaduzzaman Mia gave the directions in a meeting with DMP Zone Deputy Commissioners and Additional Deputy Commissioners (ADC) at police headquarters in the capital on Thursday.
Wishing anonymity, a Deputy Commissioner (DC) said that DMP commissioner directed all to remain alert so that the law and order situation remain under control.
"Police will receive bullets in check post and terrorists will flee the scene, this type of situation can`t be accepted. Police can open fire to save themselves," he added.
Following the matter, DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner SM Jahangir Alam Sarkar said this type of directions was not given officially but unofficially police forces have been warned.
On October 22, Miscreants had stabbed to death an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Darus Salam police station in the city’s Gabtali area.
Later, on November 4, three attackers swooped on five cops while performing their duties at Baroipara check post of Ashulia area under Savar, on the outskirts of the capital Dhaka, leaving a policeman dead and another one injured critically.
