' New road transport act to be implemented from next week'

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam has said that the Road Transport Act-2018 will be implemented from next week.
The DMP commissioner said this at a press conference at its media centre on Monday morning.
More than a year after it was passed into a law, the Road Transport Act-2018 officially went into effect on November 1 but we were not fully prepared for the job, he said.
“At present we are not fully prepared to implement the new law”, he said.
Jatiya Sangsad on September 19, 2018 passed Road Transport Bill replacing Motor Vehicles Ordinance 1983 in the wake of countrywide student protests after two students of Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College were killed by a reckless bus in Dhaka on July 29 of the year.
The law was approved by President Abdul Hamid on October 9 in 2018.
