A 10-day nationwide general holiday declared by the government began from Thursday morning to curb the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) infection.

As per the announcement, all government and private offices, except those involved in emergency services including law enforcement and health facilities, will be closed from March 26 to April 4.

Army personal are also patrolling across the country to ensure social distancing to curb the spread of the coronavirus  infection that has claimed five lives in the country.

Public transport services have also been suspended during the holidays to ensure social distancing.

During the visit to different places of Dhaka city, the ever-so-busy capital was not seen. City-dwellers are staying at their homes.

Most shopping malls, business centres, schools, colleges and universities were not open. The atmosphere at different important and busy places in the capital is different as no one was seen there.

Dhaka’s commercial hub Motijheel, kitchen market in Karwan Bazar, and entry point Jatrabari were not buzzing with people. No vehicle was seen at Farmgate, Mohakhali, Shahbagh and Gulistan.
