11 get Bangla Academy award

Staff Correspondent: A total of 11 renowned persons have got the ‘Bangla Academy Sahitya Award 2016’ for their outstanding contribution to the various sections of literature.

 

Dr Shamsuzzaman Khan, director general of Bangla Academy, declared the names of the winners at a press conference held at its office on Thursday.

 

Altaf Hossain has won the award in the category of poetry while Shahin Akhter in literature (Katha Sahitya), Abul Momen and Atiur Rahman in essay, Moniruzzaman in research, Tazul Mohammad in literature on liberation war affairs, Faruk Chowdhury in travel story, Sujon Barua in juvenile literature, Abdus Selim in translation works, Masum Reza in drama and Sharif Khan in science, technology and environment.

 

Directors of Bangla Academy Mohammad Abdul Hai, Dr Jalala Ahmed and Dr. Mohammad Mijanur Rahman were also present at the press conference

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hand over the award at the launching ceremony of month-long Ekushey Book Fair.
