‘11 had taken part in Abrar murder directly’

Eleven individuals had taken part in killing of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) student Abrar Fahad Rabbi.

Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Monirul Islam said this in a press briefing at its media centre in the capital on Wednesday noon.

He said, “Eleven students of BUET had taken part directly in Abrar muder while 14 others were found involved in bringing the body down and planning of the killing. So, a charge sheet was pressed before the court against these 25 students.”

He further said, “The murder incident actually ensued centering a status posted on Facebook. All accused were found involved in the investigation. So, we hope the culprits will face exemplary punishment.”

Monirul Islam said, “Detective Branch (DB) arrested a total of 21 accused in the case. Of them, 16 were mentioned in the case statement. Others five were arrested as they were found involved in investigation.”

Abrar, a second-year student of electrical and electronic engineering department of BUET, was beaten to death reportedly by BCL leaders at Sher-e-Bangla Hall of the university. He was found dead on the staircase of the dormitory early hours on October 7.

Victim’s father Barkatullah filed a case with Chawkbazar Police Station in the capital against 19 people over the murder.
