14 onion importers grilled

Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) under National Board of Revenue (NRB) has grilled representatives of 14 top importers of the essential cooking ingredient onion.

Staff of CIID began interrogation around 10.30am on Monday at its headquarters in the city.
Md Shahidul Islam, director general of the CIID, confirmed the matter.

CIID sources said, “The agency interrogated representatives of the 14 onion importing firms after the end of the hearing.”

Earlier on Sunday, the agency issued separate letters to some 47 onion importing firms asking them to appear before the CID office in Dhaka and participate in a hearing.
