16 officials suspended over Rooppur pillow scam

Housing and Public Works Ministry suspended 16 officials for their involvement in graft while purchasing furniture, pillow and other household items for Green City housing project under Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Project.

A report submitted before the High Court confirmed the matter on Tuesday. Zillur Rahman, Deputy Secretary of Housing and Public Works Ministry signed the report.

The suspended officials are- Md Shafiqul Islam, Md Abu Sayeed, Md Shahin Uddin, Md Jahidul Kabir, Md Rafiquzzaman, Suman Kumar Nandi, Md Fazle Haque, Md Rawshan Ali, Md Aminul Islam, Md Rubel Hussain, Md Tarek, Ahamed Sazzad Khan, Md Mostafa Kamal, Md Tahazzud Hossain, AKM Zillur Rahman.

The report signed by Deputy Secretary of the ministry Suraiya Begum said, the 16 officials were suspended as evidence found regarding unusual expenditure.

Earlier, according to reports, each pillow was shown to have cost Tk 5,957 and Tk 760 was shown as the lifting charge for each pillow while an electric stove was shown to have been bought for Tk 7,747 with an additional lifting charge of Tk 6,650.
