NBR Chairman Abdur Rahman Khan
National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Abdur Rahman Khan said, “The proposed budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year has not provided any direct facility for converting black money into white, there is no special facility like before. However, if someone wants to use their undisclosed income by paying additional tax in specific sectors, there is an opportunity.”
He said this at a post-budget press conference at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Tuesday (June 3).
Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, Planning Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud, Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin, Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H Mansur, and Power and Energy Adviser Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan were present at the time.
The NBR chairman said, “This time, two specific opportunities have been provided in the budget. Among them, if someone buys a flat or land with undisclosed money, they can legalize it by paying a tax slightly higher than the prescribed price. No investigation will be conducted against them by any agency such as the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Income Tax Department or Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU). On the other hand, if someone builds a house on land in their name with undisclosed money, they will have to pay double the tax.”
He said, “This is no basically an opportunity to whiten black money, but a way has been provided to use any undisclosed money by paying additional tax in specific sectors.”
The NBR chairman said, “The special opportunity to legalize black money has been completely canceled since last year (August 2024). Its continuity has been maintained this time too.”
